Today I picked up my latest toy, a Cannondale CAAD9 5. I have never owned a road bike before so I did not really know what to expect, or what to buy for that matter. I shopped around a little bit and elected to not buy from Bicycles Inc. because they did not seem to care all that much.
I ended up buying from Mad Duck Adventure Sports in Grapevine TX. I was very happy with the level of service they provided in helping me pick the best road bike for me. They did not try and get me to spend thousands of dollars on a bike that I did not need , the found the bike that would work best and fit me and said 'buy this'. Thats what I did, and then I waited a week to pick it up, it turns out I guess that not very many people that are my size ride road bikes and they had to order a 63cm bike, they do not stock them. So trusting that the owner of the joint was going to treat me right I forked over my hard earned money for a bike I had never road or even looked at. The bike is in my hot little hands right now, with a nice new Sigma computer on it so I can watch my heart explode when I try and ride road. I am going to take it 'around the block' tomorrow and try and put about 10 miles on it and then on Sunday morning I plan on attending the beginner ride at Mad Duck in Grapevine. I hope I enjoy riding road as much as I enjoy riding mountain bikes because this seems like yet another part of the hobby I can really sink money into.
